Getting Past the Guardians in Swing For Eggs

Guardians are placement hazards on the way to a nest, not a boss you defeat. Here is what the game itself says, where recorded sessions have seen one, and how to plan a route that still has swings left for the way home.

You go over them — you do not fight them

The game's own description names guardians inside the core loop: “Web-swing over the guardians, snatch the egg mid-air, and hatch it back at base.” That is the whole published instruction. Guardians are placed where the route passes, and the described answer is to stay above them and keep the swing going.

The consequence for planning is that a guardian costs you line, not health. It pushes your route toward the rings it is not standing under, and a longer line spends swings you may need for the trip back. Check what the trip actually costs with the swing budget planner before you commit to the detour.

What the description states, and what it does not

Confirmed detailWhat it means in playEvidence
Guardians are named as part of the loopThe store description for the game says to “web-swing over the guardians, snatch the egg mid-air, and hatch it back at base”. Guardians therefore sit between the nest and the base, next to the egg you are carrying.official
The described counter is height, not combatThe same sentence gives you the move: you swing over them. The description never mentions attacking, stunning or killing a guardian, so treat “get above it and keep moving” as the only tactic the game itself names.official
Crossing a zone is a ring-to-ring route“Swing between rings to cross every zone” is also from the description. Rings give you anchor points, so a guardian standing under one changes the line you take rather than the zone you enter.official

Unknown: aggro range, damage and cooldowns

No public source we checked publishes how far a guardian notices a player, how much a hit costs, or whether there is a cooldown. This page gives no numbers for those, because inventing one would be worse than leaving it blank. Read the in-game prompt and test the interaction in a live server, then tell us what you saw.

Guardian sightings recorded by zone

The placements below come from the same recorded creator sessions behind our biome progression map. They are a record of what was seen, not an official spawn list, and the developer has published no guardian table.

ZoneRecorded sightingWhy it changes your lineEvidence
Lush ForestA purple wolf guardian resting next to a nest. The guardian sits close to the nest rather than over the crossing, so the exposed moment is the pickup, not the flight.observed
Candy LandA red dragon guardian, described in the same session as sleeping. The zone also runs server-wide Secret announcements, so the traffic near this nest is not only the guardian.observed
Dino ValleyPterodactyl guardians patrolling the airspace rather than standing in one spot.A moving guardian matters more here because the distance between nests is the longest in the recorded route.observed
Deep OceanWide open voids with flying guardians noted in the later zones. No single nest-side sighting has been recorded for this zone; the note is about the airspace.observed

“Observed” marks a single recorded session, not a permanent rule. A guardian can be moved, removed or multiplied by an update — the game shipped builds within the week this page was checked, so re-read the zone before trusting the table.

Routing past a guardian without losing the run

Because the cost is line and swings rather than health, the useful checks are about your budget. In order:

  1. Decide the detour before you take the egg. A guardian near a nest is cheapest to avoid on the way in, when you are not carrying anything and can still turn around. Once the egg is in hand, the same detour is a real cost.
  2. Count swings for the round trip, not the outbound leg. The planner takes outbound, return and reserve separately for exactly this reason. A guardian that adds rings to the return leg is what turns a good run into a lost egg.
  3. Prefer a suit with more swings over more speed for a guarded nest. Extra swing capacity is margin you can spend on a detour; extra speed only helps once you are already pointed the right way. Compare capacity in the suit list.
  4. Do not hover over a moving guardian to line up a shot. The only tactic the description names is swinging over. Patrolling guardians in the later zones are the ones that punish a stationary approach most, because their position at the time you arrive is not the position you planned for.

If the guardian is guarding a nest someone else has already emptied, the trip is worth less. Nests refill every night, so re-check the night reset interval on your server before flying a long guarded route for nothing.

Plan for the return, not the arrival

Guardians are one of three things that can end a carry. The others are running the swing bar to zero mid-air and another player knocking the egg loose — see the egg stealing guide for the player-vs-player half and the systems page for how the swing counter behaves when it hits zero.

A route that survives a guardian is one you can fly twice: once with your hands empty and once with an egg. Pick the zone by the return distance in the progression map first, then look for guardians on the line you chose.

Guardian questions

Can you kill a guardian in Swing For Eggs?

Not established. The game description only describes swinging over them, and no public source we checked lists health, damage or a defeat state. If you cannot get past one, change the line or the suit rather than looking for an attack we cannot confirm.

Do guardians steal your egg?

Unconfirmed. The confirmed way an egg leaves your hands is the player-vs-player knock in the description. Treat a guardian as an obstacle on the route, and check the egg state in your own inventory rather than assuming it was taken.

Are there guardians in every zone?

Unknown as a rule. Our recorded sessions name guardians in four later zones, and the official description treats them as part of the loop generally. No published list says which zones have none, so treat an unguarded-looking nest as unconfirmed rather than safe.
